Conn teams competing in NCAA Championships
Conn hosts men’s NCAA soccer action and cross country mideast regionals. Women’s soccer on the road.
Connecticut College will host the opening round matches for the men’s NCAA Division III Soccer Tournament for the second time in program history. Conn’s No. 6 nationally ranked men’s team, making its fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance and its fifth overall, will take on Salem State on Saturday, Nov. 13, at 11 a.m. New York University and St. Joseph’s (Maine) will face off at 1:30 p.m. The winners will advance to play a second round match on Sunday, Nov. 14, at 1 p.m.
The men’s match against Salem State will be livestreamed.
The women’s team will travel to Scranton, Pennsylvania, to face Geneseo State in the first round of the women’s NCAA Division III Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 13. Scranton will play Nazareth at 1 p.m. on Saturday, and the winners of both matches will face off Sunday, Nov. 14, at 3 p.m.
The women’s match will also be livestreamed.
“This is an exciting time for athletics at Conn,” said Dean of Students Victor Arcelus. “We are focused on enhancing the student athlete experience at Conn and our guide in achieving our goals is the ‘Action Plan for Competitive Success.’ We have extraordinary athletes and coaches and we are seeing the results of our continued commitment to athletics.”
Conn has 28 intercollegiate sports and most compete in the NESCAC. Roughly 30 percent of Conn’s students participate in varsity athletics and another 20 percent in club sports, which is why athletics is one of the priorities in the College’s strategic plan and the College’s campaign, Defy Boundaries.
And it isn’t just Conn’s soccer teams enjoying tremendous competitive success this fall. Both the men’s and women’s cross country teams are performing very well and will be hosting the NCAA Division III Mideast Regionals on Saturday, Nov. 13, at 11 a.m. and 12:15 p.m., respectively. The top Division III runners in the region will be competing on Conn’s home cross country course at Harkness Park, which borders the Long Island Sound, and is one of the most beautiful courses in the country.
Director of Athletics and Chair of Physical Education Mo White reflected on the sense of community that can be felt around campus, especially following last weekend when Conn hosted the NESCAC semifinals and finals in men’s soccer.
“The turnout was incredible. It was great to see members of our campus community cheering on the men’s soccer team on championship weekend, and now we get to do it again for the NCAA Tournament,” White said.
“The entire campus was buzzing and the support our athletes receive means a great deal to them. This excitement about our fall successes is also energizing our winter and spring athletes as they prepare for their seasons,” White added.
“We often talk about the fact that we are ‘One Camel’—one community—when one team wins, we all win. We are striving to bring this level of success to all of our programs.”
