Arts bring alumni and parents together in NYC

A group of New York City alumni is coordinating a series of arts events -- the next will be a Broadway musical in May -- to bring alumni and parents together.

The effort is spearheaded by Trustee Emerita Dhuanne Schmitz Tansill '64. Tansill is active with several arts groups in the city and is a longtime volunteer and supporter of the College. Her vision initiated the renovation of Tansill Black Box Theater, and it is named in her honor.

Planning for the new arts series began last January and has already led to College events at the New York Philharmonic with Branford Marsalis and Balanchine's Nutcracker at Lincoln Center, as well as a piano recital by Pam Goldberg Rabin '91, hosted by Lisa Mednick Owen P'12 and Steve Owen '80 P'12.

Looking forward, the group is planning a College event linked to an upcoming Broadway musical in May. This summer organizers are considering a family day, complete with a picnic lunch, on Governors Island to enjoy the new classical music festival "The Rite of Summer." The festival is co-founded by pianist Pam Goldberg Rabin '91.

Other events in the works include a cocktail reception at a gallery downtown and a reunion of all theater majors.

If you live in the New York area, watch your email for invitations. Events will also be listed on the alumni calendar as plans are set for each.
