Catch 'Hay Fever' at Connecticut College April 26-29
The Department of Theater is pleased to present Noël Coward's "Hay Fever," with performances running Thursday, April 26, through Sunday, April 29, in Tansill Theater. The playwright described his popular play as "one of the most difficult plays to perform that I have encountered ... it has no plot at all, and remarkably little action." But it does have a great deal of wit. "It really is great fun," said Molly Clifford '13, who is directing the College's production. "Noël Coward has a flare for brilliantly sardonic humor, which he effortlessly weaves into the regularities of English country life. This production invites the audience into the Bliss's living room and through this, truly brings the play to life." The Bliss family are bohemians living in England in the Roaring '20s. Hilarity ensues when they each unknowingly invite a guest to their home for the weekend. Playing the family, their servant and guests are Bailey Bennett '14, Liz Buxton '13, Elizabeth Krieg '12, Julia Larsen '14, Caroline Lazar '15, James Mamana '15, Alex Marz '13, Jacob Rosenbaum '14 and Ben Zacharia '13. The stage manager is Talia Curtin '13. "I knew this production would pose distinct challenges for me as a director, and for the cast as well," explained Clifford. "Mastering the accents and the humor, but also the reality of these wonderful characters, has been a joy. We've learned a lot and enjoyed ourselves rather!"
