College to celebrate 95th Commencement

Connecticut College’s 95th Commencement will take place on Sunday, May 19, with all the traditions members of the College community have long treasured, including the laurel chain through which graduates walk and the saplings each carries to represent the tree on the College seal and a continuing connection to the College. The ceremony will be live streamed online.

This year’s Commencement keynote speech will be delivered by television executive and author Howard Gordon, the co-creator of the Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning television series "Homeland." He is also known for his work as the showrunner and executive producer of "24." His other television credits include "The X-Files," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Angel," "Beauty and the Beast" and "Spenser: For Hire." In addition to his television work, he is the author of two novels, "Gideon's War," and "Hard Target."

President Leo I. Higdon Jr. said of Gordon, "His innovative work — and especially his talent for taking the most topical issues of the day and incorporating them into compelling storylines for broad audiences — is extraordinary, and reflects the kind of thoughtful, thorough and resourceful approach we seek to instill in our students through this liberal arts education."

The processional begins at 10:35 a.m., and Commencement is at 11 a.m. on Tempel Green. Immediately following the ceremony, there is a luncheon on the Library Green.
