Connecticut College's Relay For Life is April 19

Connecticut College will host an American Cancer Society Relay For Life event on Saturday, April 19, on the Library Green. The annual fundraiser is organized by student volunteers, who have this year chosen a carnival theme to entertain participants during the 12-hour walk, which begins at noon.

Other forms of entertainment include performances by Wicked Peach and Run for Cover as well as College ensembles Co Co Beaux, Miss Connduct and ConnArtists; food from campus favorites like The Rolling Tomato and Rita’s Water Ice; games, prizes and more.

The students have set a fundraising goal of $20,000 and, to date, 22 teams from the College and the local New London community have signed up to participate. Sophie Sharps ’16, one of the events co-chairs, is confident that the Relay for Life mission will help attract additional teams and participants, which could in turn help meet or exceed the fundraising goal.

“Relay for Life unites our community to increase cancer awareness and fight against a disease that has affected everyone’s life,” she said. “We are especially proud that the College’s new president, Katherine Bergeron, appreciates the importance of our cause and will take time out of her busy schedule to help us kick off a great event.”

The public is encouraged to participate. For more information or to form a team, join an existing team or make a donation, visit www.relayforlife.org/conncoll.
