Explore cultures through international film series
Those who live nearby, or on, the Connecticut College campus, can enjoy an opportunity to “travel afar” by attending an international film series this fall that features films in Japanese, Czech, Polish, Chinese and Arabic.
All the screenings are open to the public, free of charge, and shown with English subtitles. They all begin at 7 p.m., in Blaustein Humanities Center, Room 210.
The films are:
“Closely Watched Trains,” (Czechoslovakia, 1966, Oscar winner, Best Foreign Film) in Czech, Friday, Oct. 23
“Ida,” (Poland, 2013, Oscar winner, Best Foreign Film), in Polish, Friday, Nov. 6
“Piano in a Factory,” (China, 2010) in Chinese, Thursday, Nov. 19
“5 Broken Cameras,” (Palestine, Israel, 2012, Oscar nominee, Best Documentary) in Arabic, Friday, Dec. 4
The series was organized by the Connecticut College Language Fellows, advanced-level language students and international students who design and run language and culture-oriented events. It is funded by the Mellon Initiative on Global Education, which supports the College’s mission to provide an international, globalized liberal arts education.
