onStage at Connecticut College presents 'Trojan Women (After Euripides)' Nov. 3 and BélO Nov. 9

onStage at Connecticut College presents the best of innovative theater and Haitian "Ragganga" with upcoming performances by SITI Company Nov. 3 and BélO Nov. 9. The SITI Company, recognized throughout the world as one of theater's most important artistic collectives, will perform "Trojan Women (After Euripides)." The play, based on the classic Greek tragedy, was commissioned by the J. Paul Getty Museum and first presented at the Getty Villa in Malibu in September 2011. "Trojan Women (After Euripides)" is Nov. 3 at 8 p.m. in Palmer Auditorium. Reserved seating tickets are $28 for general admission, $25 for seniors and $14 for students. Singer/ songwriter BélO, hailed as Haiti's musical ambassador to the world, will perform Nov. 9 in Evans Hall at 8 p.m. Known for a musical style, "Ragganga," that combines reggae, jazz, rock, worldbeat and "Rara" traditional Vodou rhythms, BélO delivers sensitive messages with a sophisticated sound. "His mix of reggae with jazz and slicker pop has made him a star both at home and in Europe," wrote one reviewer in the New York Daily News. The presentation of BélO is part of Center StageSM, an initiative of the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, administered by the New England Foundation for the Arts, in cooperation with the U.S. Regional Arts Organizations, with additional support from the Robert Sterling Clark Foundation, the Asian Cultural Council and the Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic Art.
