onStage presents The Asphalt Orchestra

The Asphalt Orchestra will unleash its innovative street versions of rock, jazz and classical music on Palmer Auditorium April 5 at 8 p.m. The performance is the finale of the highly successful 2011-2012 season of the onStage at Connecticut College series. A radical new street band that brings ambitious processional music to the mobile masses, Asphalt Orchestra is the future of the marching band. The 12-member group puts on a tight, choreographed show described by Anthony Tommasini in the New York Times as "part parade spectacle, part halftime show and part cutting-edge contemporary music concert." "The playing was coolly brilliant and infectious," Tommasini writes. "And what a scene!" April 5 is Founders Day at Connecticut College, which commemorates the anniversary of the signing of the College's charter in 1911. The performance is one of several events planned as part of a celebration of the College's 101st birthday. Tickets are $20 for general admission, $18 for seniors and $10 for students. Discounted tickets are available for Connecticut College faculty and staff. For tickets and information, call (860) 439-ARTS or visit http://onstage.conncoll.edu. OnStage at Connecticut College is presented with support from The National Endowment for the Arts, New England Foundation for the Arts, The Day Publishing Company and Chubb and Son.
