Oscar winner to screen new film on campus

Geoffrey Fletcher, who won 2009’s best adapted screenplay Oscar for “Precious,” will screen his new film, “Violet & Daisy,” at Connecticut College on Thursday, April 18, at 4:30 p.m. in Evans Hall of Cummings Arts Center.

The movie — which will open in theaters this summer — is Fletcher’s directorial debut. The Waterford, Conn., native also wrote the script for this offbeat tale of teen female assassins who accept a routine job, only to find out the target isn’t what they expected. Set in New York City, the film stars James Gandolfini, Alexis Bledel, Saoirsie Ronan, Marianne Jean-Baptiste and Danny Trejo.

Fletcher will introduce the film and answer questions after the screening. While on campus,  he’ll also visit a film studies class and meet with other members of the College community.

The event is being co-sponsored by the Office of Volunteers for Community Service, the Holleran Center for Community Action and Public Policy, the Center for the Comparative Study of Race and Ethnicity and the Film Studies Program.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 860-439-2458.
