Scholar-in-residence to speak on Syrian crisis

Ahmad Alachkar, a scholar-in-residence at Connecticut College, will discuss the situation in Syria on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 4:30 p.m. in Harkness Chapel.

In his talk, “Shattered Syria,” Alachkar will provide an overview of the country’s civil war, the devastating consequences for its citizens and the emergence of ISIS. The topic is close to his heart: Alachkar was the dean of the faculty of economics at the University of Aleppo before he came to the College courtesy of the Institute of International Education's Scholar Rescue Fund. He will offer both his professional and personal view of what has happened in his home country and comment on what he believes to be a frustratingly hesitant international response.

There will be a reception following the talk. This event is sponsored by the Department of Economics and the Office of the Dean of Faculty.
