Senior dance majors to perform

The Connecticut College Department of Dance presents “Ten Different Things,” the final thesis performance for senior dance majors, April 18-20 in Palmer Auditorium.

Each dance major has choreographed a 10-15 minute piece, or has commissioned a solo piece from a guest artist, that showcases their creative talents as well as the skills they have developed while at the College.

The show features original works choreographed by seniors Sammi Shay, Ayano Elson, Liz Charky, Grant Jacoby, Jeramie Orton, Rachel Pritzlaff, Chloe Spitalny and Skyler Volpe, as well as solos choreographed by guest artists Angie Hauser (Bebe Miller Company) and Wendell Cooper (Complex Stability), respectively, for Amy Gernux and Candace Taylor. The show also features a group piece choreographed by guest artist Nicholas Leichter ’94 (Nicholas Leichter Dance).

“‘Ten Different Things’ is a unique culmination of the 2013 dance majors' exploration in dance,” Jacoby said. “The pieces range from dark to funny, poignant to athletic, all while maintaining choreographic integrity and dynamism. The program will be an impressive exploration of movement, space, theatrics and entertainment — a dynamic and diverse show that the audience will enjoy.”

Performance times are 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18, through Saturday, April 20, with a matinee performance at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are $12 for general admission and $6 for students and seniors. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 860-439-5283.
