Six New Directors Nominated to Alumni Board
The Alumni Association Board of Directors has nominated six new directors and is recommending that three others be reappointed to second terms. All would serve for three years beginning in 2012.
The candidates are presented as a single slate according to the bylaws of the Association. You can indicate your support for the slate by calling 1-800-888-7549 or emailing the Office of Alumni Relations at alumni.relations@conncoll.edu no later than June 30. Brief bios of the nominees are below.
New nominees are:
Carol L. Parke ’58, majored in English, played field hockey and participated in the Student Government Association. She was a class officer and served on the judiciary board and Koiné committee. She earned her graduate degree at Columbia and retired from Syracuse University as an associate librarian. Carol volunteers as a class agent and was editor of her 50th Reunion yearbook. She lives in Richmond, Va., close to a daughter and two of her grandsons.
David Clark ’73 majored in government and was a housefellow and class officer; on the judiciary board, SGA, student newspaper and radio; and played basketball. He has volunteered as an alumni admission representative, club president, class president and reunion chairman. David works in buying and planning; he also has spent 13 years in town management, serving on the planning board and town council of Falmouth, Maine. David and his wife, Phyllis, recently relocated to Bella Vista, Ark.
Jamie Glanton Costello ’89 of Brookline, Mass., majored in sociology-based human relations and earned her M.A. from Teachers College of Columbia University and Ph.D. from Boston College in higher education administration. Jamie has served as a president’s office delegate, Bridges Mentoring Program volunteer, class treasurer, reunion committee member and alumni admission representative. She was a member of the undergraduate alumni board. The dean of students and multicultural programs at Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Jamie and her husband, John, have two children, Xavier and Delaney.
Ryan Poirier ’96 of Columbus, Ohio, majored in government and was SGA vice president, a housefellow and a member of the senior pledge committee. He holds an M.A. in education and a Ph.D. from Ohio State University. Ryan is a former Young Alumni Trustee and a member of his class’s reunion committee, class president and a career adviser. He lives with his partner, Bob Barnes.
Sarah Schoellkopf ’97, of San Francisco, majored in sociology and Hispanic studies, was a Winthrop scholar, and received academic awards from the Toor Cummings Center for International Studies and the Liberal Arts, the Hispanic studies department and the sociology department. With a Fulbright to Buenos Aires, she continued the human rights studies that she began with a CISLA grant. Sarah holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in Hispanic languages and literatures from the University of California-Berkeley and is a Spanish teacher/language director at St. Matthew's Episcopal Day School. She has volunteered as an alumni admission representative and class agent.
Jennifer Tejada ’10 of Bronx, N.Y., was one of the first Cornel West scholars at the College. A cum laude graduate, she majored in economics and international relations. She volunteers as a class agent and assists with the regional March Mania program to raise participation for the Graduates of the Last Decade. Jennifer is a paralegal in the Latin America division at Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen and Hamilton LLP, an international law firm.
Nominations for a second term are:
Lucie Hoblitzelle Iannotti ’57 P’83 of Branford, Conn., majored in English and earned an M.A. in renaissance English from Yale University. An active volunteer in the community and for the College, she has served as a Reunion Committee member, class agent and planned giving chair. She and her husband, Lawrence, enjoy travel and joined the alumni tours to Ecuador and the Galapagos, East Africa, and Indonesia. Their oldest child is Anthony Iannotti ’83.
Robin Wilson ’82 of New Haven, Conn., a government major, received her J.D. from Northeastern and a master’s of law from New York University. She has been active in the Connecticut College Alumni of Color committee. She serves as a Connecticut Superior Court judge.
Martha E. (Meg) Gifford ’73 of Brooklyn, N.Y., a government major who graduated with distinction in the major, received her J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School. She served in many student and faculty-student government positions and as a housefellow; won two government department prizes; and was a department-sponsored intern to U.S. Rep. Ella Grasso. In 1998 she received the Alumni Tribute Award in recognition of her many volunteer roles, including admission representative, class agent chair and class agent, class president and vice president, and Reunion Chair. Meg has served on the board’s annual giving committee and currently serves on the nominations committee as well as the Connecticut College Alumni of Color committee. She practices law in New York, where she lives with her husband, James Daniels P’93.
