Theater major directs capstone project
The Connecticut College Department of Theater presents the final of three productions from theater majors who will graduate next month as members of the Class of 2014.
“Seminar,” written by Broadway veteran Theresa Rebeck and directed by Scott Pulvirent ’14, follows four writers taking a writing seminar taught by a man with methods to his madness. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, and Friday, May 2, in Tansill Theater. Admission is free and open to the public.
Previous capstone projects by theater majors included “Barely Naked,” created and performed by Jacob Rosenbaum ’14, a performance piece, and “Medea of Gaza,” written by Julian Gordon ’14 and performed by Julia Larsen ’14, both as part of their honors theses.
In creating these capstone projects, theater majors employed the specific focus of their individual academic careers, whether writing, performing or directing. They are assisted in the productions by student performers, crew members, stage managers and publicists, and mentored by members of the department faculty.
“These capstone projects represent the culmination of these students’ college careers, but may also serve as a starting point for future work,” said David Jaffe ’77, chair of theater and faculty adviser for the productions. “Jacob, Julian, Julia and Scott are adventurous and creative young artists. They have contributed so much to the department and community, it’s rewarding for the department to see its new capstone program launched by this group.”
