Two music-filled weeks in December

Evans Hall will resound with varied musical events during the first two weeks of December as the Music Department presents its faculty, staff, student and guest performers in concert and recital. All events are open to the public.

Free student recitals will be held on Friday, Dec. 2, as music students perform at 4:30 p.m. in Harkness Chapel; on Saturday, Dec. 3, a senior recital will be performed by Kristina Toro '17, voice, from 3-4 p.m. in Harkness Chapel; and on Monday, Dec. 5, music students perform at 12 p.m. in Fortune Hall.

Concerts, all in Evans Hall, Cummings Arts Center, include:

“Seasons of Change” with the CC Concert Band on Monday, Dec. 5, at 7 p.m., with Gary Buttery, Director. Free to all.

“Autumn Leaves” with the Jazz Ensemble and Traditional Jazz Band, on Wednesday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m., with Gary Buttery, Director. Tickets: $5; seniors $3; students $3. Connecticut College faculty, staff and students are free. 

“Mozart in the Jungle” with the Connecticut College Orchestra on Thursday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m., with Mark Seto conducting. Featuring music from the Golden Globe-winning show. The program includes W.A. Mozart's “Overture to The Magic Flute,” Franz Schubert's "Unfinished" Symphony, and Arturo Márquez's “Danzón No. 2.” The Schubert and Márquez pieces were featured in “Mozart in the Jungle.” The Mozart and Schubert pieces are classics of the orchestral literature. The Márquez is a contemporary Mexican work which was popularized by Gustavo Dudamel and the Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela. New Music Chamber Ensemble on Tuesday, Dec. 13,  7 p.m., with Peter Jarvis, Director. Tickets: $5; seniors $3; students $3. Connecticut College faculty, staff and students are free.

Charles Shackford Memorial Student Composers on Wednesday, Dec. 14,  at 7 pm., with Art Kreiger directing. Free to all.
