The Office of Student Accessibility Services (SAS) is committed to ensuring nondiscrimination and access to all programs, activities, and services for qualified students with disabilities. We seek to create an environment in which students with documented conditions or disorders participate in the range of experiences available to all students (including curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular activities). We are committed to ensuring that people with disabilities have the same access, opportunities, and independence as everyone else. Our programs, services, and facilities are designed so that individuals with disabilities can participate fully and make their own choices, just like their peers.

The goals and objectives of Student Accessibility Services are to:

  • Coordinate academic and residential accommodations to ensure students with disabilities can fully participate in all aspects of college life, including coursework, residential living, and co-curricular activities, through individual consultations and ongoing support
  • Offer a comprehensive pre-orientation program, HELIX, for incoming first-year students with disabilities that builds community, develops self-advocacy skills, and prepares students for college-level expectations
  • Foster disability community and cultural celebration through the Disability Cultural Center, a welcoming space that affirms and celebrates disability culture, explores intersectionality of identities, provides community support, and advocates for disability justice
  • Build social connection and belonging through Camel Hangouts, a program that creates opportunities for students with disabilities to develop meaningful peer connections, reduce isolation, and increase engagement with campus community
  • Create and maintain partnerships with faculty and staff in order to promote disability awareness Provide guidance regarding College policies and procedures to ensure the full participation for persons with disabilities in all aspects of campus life

Accessible classroom requests

Students who require classes to be scheduled in accessible locations or have other special classroom needs should inform the director of Student Accessibility Services as soon as possible (preferably before preregistration for returning students and during the summer for entering students). Special classroom needs should also be indicated by the student in the online student application.

Please inform the director of Student Accessibility Services immediately if the need for a change in classroom location or other accommodation arises during the school year. If you have not already registered with the Office of Student Accessibility Services, you will be required to provide appropriate documentation of your disability. You should also inform your class dean and relevant faculty members. We will make every attempt to meet specific needs that arise after classrooms have been assigned, but we will need your cooperation to do so.

Parking

Students with permanent disabilities who require accessible parking on campus, must obtain a Handicapped Parking Permit in your name that is issued by your state of permanent residence.

Students who have a temporary impairment should contact Student Health Services at 860-439-2275 for special parking permissions.
