21st Annual One Book, One Region Kickoff, presenting “What the Eyes Don't See” by Mona Hanna-Attisha

A kickoff celebration for the book with keynote speaker Derek Turner. Turner is Class of ’43 Professor of Philosophy and the Karla Heurich Harrison ’28 Director of the Goodwin-Niering Center for the Environment at Connecticut College. Turner’s research focuses on philosophical issues in historical science, especially paleontology and the earth sciences. He is interested in understanding how scientists come to know things about the deep past. He has also written on a variety of topics in environmental philosophy: the ethics of radical environmental activism; the precautionary principle; NIMBY (“Not In My Backyard”) activism; as well as rewilding and de-extinction. A Conversation with Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha

As part of the One Book One Region initiative of New London County and Connecticut College’s Summer Reading program, Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha will visit the Connecticut College campus on Wednesday, Sept 20, 2023 to discuss her book, What the Eyes Don’t See, with Professor Julia Flagg.

Julia Flagg is an Assistant Professor of Sociology and Environmental Studies at Connecticut College. She is interested in interdisciplinary research and teaching around questions of global environmental change. Professor Flagg holds a bachelor of arts degree from The College of New Jersey, as well as a master's degree and a doctorate from Rutgers University. Before coming to Connecticut College, she completed a post-doctoral research fellowship in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Connecticut.
