Men’s Soccer advances to Sweet 16
NEW LONDON, Conn. - Ten Connecticut College students, in partnership with the New London Homeless Hospitality Center, are planning a benefit walk April 25 to raise money to aid the local homeless population. The walk is part of a community learning seminar for the Connecticut College Holleran Center for Community Action and Public Policy.
The students hope to educate the public about the issue of homelessness in the New London area and raise money for the Homeless Hospitality Center. Every evening the Homeless Hospitality Overnight Shelter welcomes an average of 50 guests, offering a safe, warm community. The Day Time Center provides a place of hospitality and support to more than 70 individuals who struggle with the challenges of being homeless.
Community members are encouraged pledge their support by becoming a sponsor, joining the walk or volunteering on the day of the walk. Different levels of sponsorship are available. The walk will follow a three-mile route that passes by sites in New London that serve the homeless.
Registration on the day of the walk is from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Homeless Hospitality Day Center, 19 Jay Street, New London. There is a $12 entry donation for individuals who register before the day of the event, a $10 entry donation for groups of five, and a $9 entry donation for groups of 10 or more. Entry donations are an additional $3 the day of the walk.
Walkers are encouraged to get additional sponsors. Individuals who send $50 or more in sponsorship donations by April 18 will receive a free T-shirt the day of the walk.
