One Book One Region: Conn hosts ‘Interior Chinatown’ author Charles Yu
NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Connecticut College Art Department is proud to present "Re-inventing Silverpoint, An Ancient technique for the 21st Century" in the galleries at the Cummings Arts Center. The exhibit will feature silverpoint works by a number of prominent artists from Nov. 4 - Dec. 10.
Silverpoint, a traditional drawing technique, is experiencing a resurgence of interest even at a time when most artists are using new and rapidly changing digital tools and technology instead of using old-fashioned techniques.
"Silverpoint remains a venerable instrument of intimate communication for artists today, and provides a welcome distraction from the dizzying pace of our techno-centric world," co-curator Margaret Matthews-Berenson said.
This medium's allure and versatility has attracted several prominent followers, such as contemporary artists Marietta Hoferer, Cynthia Lin, Natalie Loveless, Carol Prusa and Susan Schwalb, whose works will be featured in the exhibition.
On Nov. 11 at 4:15 p.m., co-curators Matthews-Berenson and Susan Schwalb will give a lecture to help launch the exhibition. Matthews-Berenson is a New York-based independent curator, lecturer and art advisor, and Schwalb is a New York-based artist who has worked almost exclusively in silverpoint since 1975. There will be a reception immediately following the lecture.
The exhibition is free and open to the public Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday through Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
