Renowned object theater company Au Cul Du Loup to give free performance at Connecticut College Nov. 10

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Au Cul Du Loup, an "object theater" company known for mystical performances around objects that make unique sounds, will give a free public performance in Connecticut College's Myers Studio Wednesday, Nov. 10, at 7:30 p.m. Under the creative direction of Henri Ogier and Dominique Montain, Au Cul Du Loup specializes in adapting everyday items and strange objects to make surprising sounds and provide the focus for a theatrical experience that includes music and dance. "An Au Cul Du Loup performance isn't a music concert, since these objects aren't instruments or props. Instead, the objects become the poetic stars of the performance," David Dorfman, chair of the Connecticut College dance department, said. The New York Times called the group's performance at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival a "playful, eccentric piece of physical theater." The Nov. 10 performance will be improvisational in nature and based on excerpts from the group's successful productions. The performance is sponsored by the Dayton Artist in Residence Program, which gives students the opportunity to explore a wide variety of artistic approaches and techniques with artists and performers who are not typically accessible in an academic setting. Au Cul Du Loup will spend the week of the performance on campus leading various workshops for students in dance, music and visual arts classes.
