What makes a champion?
Fall Weekend, Connecticut College's annual family and alumni weekend, is always packed with exciting events. This year, with the College in the midst of a year-long Centennial celebration, the weekend promises to be bigger than ever. In addition to traditional favorites like Harvestfest, a cappella concerts, soccer on Tempel Green and the all-campus picnic, the weekend is full of Centennial extras, including Friday night fireworks and Saturday's "Big Event."
Registrations for the weekend have far outpaced the final numbers from last year, with more than 2,000 alumni and parents already registered. One of the biggest draws is certainly "100 Years of Great Beginnings," a multimedia production known more simply as 'The Big Event.' The centerpiece of the Centennial celebration, the event promises to give students, parents and alumni the chance to see Connecticut College like never before. Palmer Auditorium will roar to life when 'The Big Event' begins at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22.
On Friday night, Tempel Green will light up with a private fireworks show at 9:30 p.m. Guests are asked to bring a blanket to sit on.
Other highlights of the weekend include alumni, faculty and student speakers; performances of "Foundations, Dreams and Inspirations: The Centennial Project," an original evening of theater directed by Michael Lerner '89 and created entirely by the cast using items from the College archives, news articles and interviews with alumni; a fall foliage walk through the arboretum; a jazz clinic with and performance by Mingus Big Band and a Saturday night Centennial gala.
