Darcie C. Folsom, Connecticut College’s director of sexual violence prevention and advocacy, was honored Jan. 10 with a Southeastern Connecticut 40 Under Forty Award, presented by the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce, Greater Westerly-Pawcatuck Area Chamber of Commerce, Greater Norwich Area Chamber of Commerce and The Day.

The awards recognize 40 of the best and brightest individuals in the community under 40 years of age who have consistently demonstrated excellence in their profession, as well as leadership, commitment, and service to the region.

Folsom was honored not only for her work on campus — which includes establishing the first Green Dot bystander intervention program in the state — but also for her service as the vice president of the board of directors at Safe Futures in New London.

Other honorees this year include New London Mayor Daryl Finizio; Lieutenant Commander Andrew P. Halvorson, an assistant professor at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy; Allison D. Tuttle, senior director of animal care and veterinary services at Mystic Aquarium; and Stonington police officer Bryan Schneider.

“I am honored to be recognized alongside such an impressive group of leaders, influencers, activists and educators,” Folsom said.
