Connecticut College names Pamela Dumas Serfes vice president for Communications

Pamela Dumas Serfes, who has led communications operations at private and public institutions across a 25-year career, has been named vice president for Communications at Connecticut College. The appointment is effective immediately.

As vice president at Connecticut College, Dumas Serfes will be responsible for all aspects of the College’s external communications in both print and digital formats, as well as for communications around all major institutional events, with particular focus on admission, alumni relations, and fundraising. She will work closely with the President and members of the senior administration to bring greater clarity and focus to the College’s communications strategies and partner with the College’s faculty, students, and staff to advance institutional positioning and reputation.

Dumas Serfes has been serving as the acting vice president for College Relations since January 2014. During that time, she chaired the committee on the presidential Inauguration and also facilitated two summer working groups — one on the College’s career programs and the other on enrollment strategy — while overseeing every aspect of marketing, communications, and external relations for the College. More recently, she has begun advancing plans for a new College website at www.conncoll.edu.

Dumas Serfes joined Connecticut College in 2012 as the director of Advancement Communications within the division of College Relations. Before her appointment to this post, she held a range of increasingly responsible positions across several institutions: first, as director of Public Relations and Communications at Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in Virginia; later, as director of News and Communications at Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and finally, as associate vice president of Communications and External Relations at Wake Forest University in North Carolina. In total, she brings more than 25 years of experience in communications and marketing to her role at Connecticut College.

“With the success she has already enjoyed here; with her strong track record in nearly every aspect of strategic communications; and with her enthusiasm for the mission and values of Connecticut College, I am certain that Pamela will be an important leader, allowing the College to tell its story in ever more creative ways to the wider world,” said President Katherine Bergeron.

Dumas Serfes earned both a bachelor of arts and a master’s degree in Speech Communication from the University of Maine in Orono. She is a resident of Mystic, Conn.
