Alex Brown Jazz Quartet to perform on campus Feb. 1

The Connecticut College Department of Music is pleased to present the Alex Brown Jazz Quartet in concert on Wednesday, Feb. 1, at 7 p.m. in Fortune Recital Hall. Led by Grammy-nominated Alex Brown, who has been compared to the legendary jazz pianist Chick Corea, the group of exciting young musicians includes bassist Zach Brown, a member of Berklee School of Music's "Global Jazz Institute," drummer Eric Doob, who has performed with The Lincoln Center Jazz Project, and acclaimed Cuban-born saxophonist Yosvany Terry Cabrera. Associate Professor of Music Midge Thomas said, "The Music Department is thrilled to bring this up-and-coming group to campus. Young musicians, all, they already have incredible experience, and are poised for huge careers. Both Alex Brown and Eric Doob, for instance, play and record regularly with jazz giant Paquito D'Rivera; it speaks volumes that he has chosen them to play with his band. Add to the mix bass phenomenon Zach Brown and saxophonist Yosvany Terry Cabrera, whom Ben Ratliff of The New York Times describes as 'redefining Latin jazz as a complex new idiom,' and the result will surely be exhilarating. In addition to their performance that evening, the quartet will give a master class for students that afternoon." Tickets are $10 for general admission, $5 for seniors and students and free to College staff, faculty, and students.
