Concert features a sampler of songs to celebrate the season
The Connecticut College Department of Music will showcase the work of several different ensembles in one performance - the Autumn Sampler Concert - on Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m. in Evans Hall of Cummings Arts Center. The audience will sample performances by the Concert Band, the Traditional Jazz Band and the Jazz Ensemble, accompanied by members of the Chamber Choir. The variety of the ensembles is matched by the variety in the program, which includes works by two very different Williams - characteristically British composer Ralph Vaughan Williams and American John Williams, best known for his film scores - as well as songs from Tin Pan Alley, blues legend Robert Johnson, Duke Ellington and Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band. "The selections include a wealth of wonderful music - there really is something for everyone," said Gary Buttery, adjunct assistant professor of music and director of the Autumn Sampler Concert. Tickets are $5 for general admission and $3 for seniors and students. It is free to Connecticut College staff, faculty and students as well as students of the Thames Valley Music School and members of the U.S. Coast Guard Band.
