Concert of French music is the perfect pre-Valentine's date

The Department of Music presents "La Nuit Romantique (avec violoncelle)," a concert of music in the French tradition, on Sunday, Feb. 12, at 7:30 p.m. in Fortune Recital Hall, Cummings Arts Center. Adjunct Music Instructor Alvin Wong, on cello, and pianist Lucas Wong will perform Debussy's "Sonate," Faure's "Sonata No. 2" and Franck's "Sonata in A Major," pieces that make the event a perfect prelude to Valentine's Day. "French music is very romantic," said Alvin Wong. "Although the three composers belong to different generations and 'speak' very different musical languages, one can find touching moments in every single piece. "French music is also very passionate, but relatively lighter, more transparent and more colorful. I always find French music very sensitive to the 'sonic outcome,' the sound itself. It could mean the harmony in a more traditional sense, or instrumental colors. These aspects are very well demonstrated in the pieces we are going to perform." Tickets are $10 for general admission, $5 for seniors and students, and free for Connecticut College students, staff and faculty.
