The Connecticut College Department of Music will cap off another successful semester with concerts designed to appeal to music lovers of all tastes. The following are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted:
"Winds of December"
The Connecticut College Concert Band, joined by members of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Band and directed by Adjunct Assistant Professor of Music Gary Buttery, performs music from American composers Howard Hanson, Alan Silverstri and Leroy Anderson. Ian Frenkel will perform piano solo "The Child Prodigy” with the band.

“H & M”
The Connecticut College Orchestra, directed by Assistant Professor of Music , performs works by Handel and Mozart that have changed the face of classical music. Tickets are $5 for general admission, $3 for students and seniors, and free to Connecticut College students, staff and faculty.

“Peer Gynt and the Essence of Ellington”
The Traditional Jazz Band and Jazz Ensemble perform their take on Duke Ellington’s take on “The Peer Gynt Suites” by Edvard Grieg. Directed by Adjunct Assistant Professor of Music Gary Buttery. Tickets are $5 for general admission, $3 for students and seniors, and free to Connecticut College students, staff and faculty.

Percussion & New Music Concert
Adjunct Assistant Professor of Music Gunnar Hansen will direct the Percussion and New Music ensembles in a program featuring a wide variety of musical styles from composers including Steve Reich, Elliott Carter and Frederic Rzewski. Tickets are $5 for general admission, $3 for students and seniors, and free to Connecticut College students, staff and faculty.

Charles Shackford Memorial Student Composers Concert
Student composers present and perform their original pieces under the direction of Art Kreiger, the Sylvia Pasternack Marx Professor of Music.

In addition to the performances above, there are free student recitals on Wednesday, Dec. 3, at noon and Saturday, Dec. 6, at 4 p.m. All student recitals are in Fortune Hall of Cummings Arts Center.
