The Connecticut College Department of Dance will host the American College Dance Festival Association (ACDFA)'s New England Conference Feb. 8-11. "ACDFA is the occasion that brings together the year's the most exciting and informed dancing, dance making and teaching in New England," said David Dorfman '81, dance department chair and conference co-coordinator. "Innovation, collaboration and communication will be evidenced over the four intense days of the conference - all committed goals of our dynamic college." While registration for the conference is now closed, the Opening Night Concert and the Gala Performance, the closing show, are open to the general public. The Opening Night Concert is on Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 8 p.m. in Palmer Auditorium. Featured performers include Keith Hennessy, Darrell Jones and Victoria Marks - "dynamic and highly respected adjudicators," according to Dorfman - as well as Connecticut College alumni Nicholas Leichter '94 and Clare Byrne '93. The Gala Performance, which showcases the work of students and faculty, will take place on Saturday, Feb. 11, at 8 p.m. in Palmer Auditorium. Judges will choose up to four pieces from this show to be performed at the ACDFA's National College Dance Festival, which highlights the best performances from each of the organization's three regional conferences. "These concerts are opportunities to see dance that is both up and coming and very established and extremely innovative," Dorfman said. "And both concerts would appeal to non-dance fans as well, in that there will be elements that 'reach across the aisle' into theater, circus, music and more." Tickets for each event are $10 for general admission, $5 for students and seniors. For tickets, call the Palmer Auditorium Box Office at 860-439-ARTS.
