'Does That Make Sense' dance majors concert April 14-16
The Connecticut College Department of Dance presents “Does That Make Sense,” the final thesis performances for senior dance majors, April 14-16 in Palmer Auditorium. Tickets are $12 for general admission and $6 for students and seniors.
“These seniors have created a wonderful show full of heart, humor, stunning dancing and clear understanding of form. A unifying factor seems to be the line in space, and each choreographer uses the line differently, which is fascinating. Our guest choreographers, Ronald K. Brown, Lisa Race, Nico Brown and Kendra Portier, have given the students beautiful gifts not to be missed,” said David Dorfman, professor of dance and department chair.
There are two versions of the show: Program A, featuring the choreography and dancing of Grace Finley, Sasha Peterson Stephanie Reeves and Emily Ryan, will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, and Saturday, April 16. Program B, with dance and choreography from Maia Draper-Reich, Sergio Madera, Eva Vargas and Emma Smith, will take place on Friday, April 15, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 16, at 2 p.m.
Guest artists performing include Kendra Portier in Program A, and Ronald K. Brown and Nico Brown in Program B, and Lisa Race, associate professor of dance, who commented, "I am so excited for this group of very talented movers and thinkers to bring their individual and unique creative visions to the stage. The dances being presented on this year’s Senior Thesis Concert address a wide range of movement interests: there is humor, quiet contemplation, rigorous physicality and joy, all tended to with great thoughtfulness."
The dances include “Photo albums, P!NK (like the artist), redemption, and chicken salad,” with choreography by Maia Draper-Reich; “rehearsal (what we did last time),” with choreography by Emily Ryan; “Reset on your way back,” with choreography by Eva Vargas; “Speeches for Storms,” by choreographers Kendra Portier and Sasha Peterson, performed by Sasha Peterson; “Don't Go To Stranger,” by choreographer Nico Brown with Emma Smith, performed by Emma Smith; “The Questions Themselves,” by choreographer Grace Finley; “Blue Stings,” by choreographer Stephanie Reeves; and “Thanks, again,” by choreographer Sergio Madera.
