It's the College's 101st birthday!

The College community will gather to celebrate the 101st anniversary of the founding of Connecticut College at a tea/birthday party Thursday, April 5, from 3 to 4:30 p.m., in Cro's 1962 Room. All are welcome. The tea follows a ceremonial ringing of the Harkness Chapel bell, 101 times, beginning at 2:45 p.m. The traditional tea harkens back to the College's early years when each residential house had its own unique tea set, and students gathered with faculty and staff for weekly discussions over tea, punch and cookies. Highlights of this year's celebration include: - The story of the founding of the College, as told by David Jaffe '77, associate professor of theater and chair of the theater department. - The Centennial Song, which debuted at the Centennial Founders Day celebration in 2011, will be performed. - President Lee Higdon will join students, faculty, staff and members of the New London community in a dance performance of Twyla Tharp's "The One Hundreds." David Dorfman '81 professor of dance and chair of the Department of Dance, coordinated the performance of "The One Hundreds" in honor of Connecticut College's Centennial and beyond. Its presentation is made possible with grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and Dance American Masterpieces. "The One Hundreds" is a progressive, interactive dance that involves participants learning simple steps and then dancing, first with skilled dancers and gradually with a bigger group. Also on Founders Day, New London Main Street will take its annual "BIG Picture" from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. at the Parade Plaza. Connecticut College will send a special surprise for everyone who gathers in downtown New London for the photograph.
