Music faculty to perform diverse program

The Connecticut College Department of Music presents the Music Faculty Showcase, a unique and wide-ranging performance by 14 distinguished faculty members, on Friday, Sept. 21, at 7:30 p.m. in Evans Hall of Cummings Arts Center. The faculty have designed a delightful program with a range of musical styles and new twist on staging and pacing. Audiences will hear Bach played on the harpsichord, a Verdi operatic duet, Stravinsky's "L'Histoire du Soldat" and Debussy's lovely yet rarely performed "Petit Suite," which features two performers on a single piano. The piano in question is the College's new Steinway grand piano, acquired through a gift from an alumna and her husband. The gift will elevate the College to distinction as an "All-Steinway School." "It's unusual for so many of our faculty to perform on the same concert," said Associate Professor of Music Midge Thomas, the chair of the music department. "I think the audience will be awed by the level of talent, and students will be inspired to know they could study with these phenomenal musicians at the College. In addition, the concert is designed to be particularly engaging in its varied program, staging and pacing." Tickets to the Music Faculty Showcase are $10 for general admission and $5 for seniors and students. It is free to Connecticut College staff, faculty and students. For more information, contact the Department of Music at 860-439-2720.
