The goals of the Goodwin-Niering Center for the Environment Certificate Program are to:

  • Understand connections among components of complex environmental systems
  • Objectively assess information to understand contemporary environmental problems
  • Integrate information and concepts about environmental issues from different disciplines and perspectives to achieve a comprehensive and innovative syntheses
  • Draw connections between theoretical and practical learning
  • Effectively apply knowledge and skills through a service learning project and professional internship or research experience
  • Develop effective presentations that have high levels of rigor and clarity and that facilitate dialogue among faculty and students
  • Assess student progress through article and book critiques, written and oral reports and the senior integrative project
