The online registration system opens to students based on their class year during pre-registration (November/April). Access continues 24 hours/day until the end of the Limited Add/Delete Period. The specific dates that students will register is available here.

Overrides - A registration override allows the primary instructor to use Self Service to permit a student to register online for a course for which the student isn't permitted. See override for details.

Permission - Students will not be able to register online for courses requiring permission unless the primary instructor submits a registration override. Departments or programs may also submit registration lists with students' names and IDs per course/section/CRN to the registrar's office when seeking to add multiple students to a course.

Prerequisites - If you think a student has not met the prerequisites for a course, please contact the Office of the Registrar.

Restrictions - Class year, major and enrollment limit restrictions are enforced in Self Service. Students who do not meet the restrictions need to contact the instructor to request an override.

Reserving Seats - Instructors may reserve a specific number of seats for specific class years and/or majors. Seat reservations must comply with the enrollment limits stated in the course's catalog listing. Instructors have an opportunity to include seat reservation information with the teaching schedules submitted to the Office of the Registrar.

Advising-related

If unable to advise during advising, your advisees must be reassigned. Only assigned advisers have access to release students' Registration Advising Holds to allow students to register online.

  • Declared majors, please contact your department chair
  • Undeclared majors, please contact the student's dean.

If the change of adviser is permanent, the student should submit a new Declaration of Major form signed by the new adviser. If the change is temporary (i.e. to cover a sabbatical), please submit a list to the Office of the Registrar of new adviser assignments that will be in effect during the leave period.

Instructions to Release Registration Advising Hold

If the student is away, advising for students on Study Away, SATA or re-entry from leave should take place via email.

If a student has other holds, you may still advise and release the Registration Advising Hold. The student will need to follow the instructions for other holds that may prevent registration.

Overpointing is not available during prereg. Eligible students may overpoint during the Add/Delete Period. Please refer to the catalog for further information on overpointing.
