Academic

Phi Alpha Theta National History Honor Society

Phi Alpha Theta is an American honor society for undergraduate and graduate students and professors of history. The Connecticut College chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, Alpha-Pi-Beta, was established on October 10, 2015. The organization receives into membership senior undergraduates of history who attain exceptional standards of scholarship and academic distinction.

Psi Chi National Psychology Honor Society

The initiation ceremony for the College's chapter of Psi Chi, the psychology national honor society, is a momentous and proud event for the chosen psychology students and the psychology department. Psi Chi's mission is to produce a well-educated, ethical, and socially responsible member committed to contributing to the science and profession of psychology and to society in general. As a national honor society, Psi Chi's purpose is to encourage, stimulate, and maintain excellence in scholarship of the individual members in all fields, particularly in psychology, and to advance the science of psychology.

Pi Mu Epsilon

The College is home to the Connecticut Epsilon Chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon, the national mathematics honor society, to which students may be inducted each year.

Women in STEM

The purpose of this organization shall be to create a space where women (students, alumni, faculty and staff) in the Connecticut College STEM Departments (Behavioral Neuroscience, Biology, Botany, Chemistry, Computer Science, Environmental Studies, Mathematics, Physics), as well as other students interested in or even curious about the subject of STEM can feel comfortable interacting, learning, and asking questions. Creating a strong sense of community is a large part of this organization's goal.

Club Sports

Baseball

Club Baseball invites players of all ability levels to join in playing America's greatest pastime.

Dance Team

Dance Team is a jazz and hip hop based team that provides students an opportunity to perform at athletic events and compete regionally against other college teams.

Equestrian Team

The Connecticut College Equestrian Team offers horseback riding to students at an affordable rate and a chance to be part of a low stress and fun team environment. We ride out of Mystic Valley Hunt Club with our coach Richard Luckhardt and we compete against a group of colleges and universities across Connecticut in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association throughout the academic year. The college owns and has access to some of the nicest horses in the region thanks to our partnership with Mystic Valley which is less than 15 minutes from campus. Every member will participate in lessons with 2-3 other students either once of twice a week depending on their preference and we welcome all levels of experience to both ride and show with us.

Figure Skating (Flying Camels)

The Connecticut College Figure Skating Club is a small group of skaters that enjoys practicing at their own pace on campus, free of charge. Ice time is usually October through March and is generally twice a week for an hour and fifteen minutes, and all sessions are optional. Competitions are optional and depend on the location of the intercollegiate competitions during the year. The club also enjoys teaching a free Learn to Skate program to New London youth on Saturday mornings.

Golf

The purpose of this organization shall be to provide a opportunity to enjoy the sport of golf amongst peers. It would allow members to learn, play, and, participate in local golf tournaments. This organization is meant for those who have played golf previously, those who wish to learn, and anyone else who has an interest in golf.

Hockey (M)

Connecticut College Club Hockey competes as a Division II member of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) against a wide range of schools throughout the northeast. The team practices twice a week and plays a twenty game schedule. They skate out of the College's Dayton Arena, known by its avid fans as "The Camel Dome."

Hockey (W)

The purpose of this organization shall be to provide females the opportunity to play ice hockey at the club
sport level. The team will provide an opportunity for anyone to participate regardless of skill level.

Lacrosse (M)

The Connecticut College Men's Lacrosse Club is playing the fastest game on two feet. We are members of the NCLL (National College Lacrosse League) and we welcome players of all abilities.

Lacrosse (W)

Women's club lacrosse is a fun, low-key way to stay in shape and meet people who either played in high school and want to continue or are completely new to the sport. We play games against various club teams across CT and have practices as well as team bonding activities during the spring semester.

Rugby (M)

Connecticut College Men's Rugby Football Club (CCRFC) is arguably the most diverse club on campus. We pride ourselves on attracting players from all skill levels, backgrounds, and academic pursuits. Most importantly we strive to embody and uphold rugby's core values of teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline, and sportsmanship. We are a Division III team competing in the New England Rugby Football Union (NERFU). We play Union Rules Rugby with our main season taking place in the Fall semester and friendly matches occurring in the Spring. Practices take place three times a week down on Dawley Field (below the turf field alongside the river) and matches take place on Saturdays. We would love to share our passion for this international olympic sport with you so please reach out if you have any interest!

Rugby (W)

The Connecticut College Women's Rugby Club competes in the New England Rugby Football Union. The team plays in both the fall and the spring. No experience is necessary to join.

Ski Team

The ski team is a club sport alpine ski racing team, participating and competing in numerous USSA/USCSA competitions across Vermont and Maine. With 35+ active members, it is one of the biggest and most active club sports at the College.

Soccer (M)

Called the Connecticut College Futbol Club (CCFC). Welcoming all students. Offers competitive and relaxed play.

Soccer (W)

Women's club soccer is open to students of any and all skill and experience levels. The club is led by two team captains and practices several times a week. Practices are fun and a great way to relieve stress. We understand if you cannot make every practice because we are busy college students, but we would be happy to see you when you can come! We compete (and hold our own!) against club teams from other colleges and universities in the region such as Brown, Yale, and UMass. We hope to see you on the field!

Ultimate Frisbee©

The College's Ultimate Frisbee team is an inclusive community, that fosters an Open and a Women's team. Both teams are competitive and go to four to five tournaments a semester. Each fall the teams focus on teaching new members how to play ultimate and creating a strong community together and every spring they try to make it to Nationals. If you're interested in joining you can usually find us on Chapel field on weekday afternoons.

Volleyball

Club volleyball is a coed sport that welcomes players of all skill levels to practice and scrimmage throughout the year. As a team, our goal is to have fun in a recreational environment, stay fit, ease academic stress and ultimately improve as players while getting to know other Conn students.

Culture and Identity

The Black Student Union

Black Student Union (BSU) serves to stimulate and advocate for the intellectual, political, cultural, and social well-being and the evolution of Black students at the College. BSU serves Black identifying students on campus through many initiatives such as enriching meetings, programming, leadership development, and communal programs. The purpose of the BSU is to engage the Black community on the College campus. Through social, political, and cultural programming, BSU is engaged with uplifting Black students in a predominately White institution.

Asian and Asian American Students in Action(ASIA)

ASIA (formerly CCASA) provides a supportive environment for Asians and Asian-Americans on campus. ASIA seeks to raise awareness of cultural, political, social and academic issues that concern Asians and Asian-Americans through programming available to the greater College community. ASIA acts as a resource to students of both Asian and non-Asian background and serves as a liaison to other clubs, committees and the administration in order to voice the needs and concerns for the College's Asian and Asian-American students.

International Student Association

The International Student Association provides a supportive environment for international students and, through events, celebrates and shares their cultures with the campus community.

Korean Language Club

The Korean Language Club was started to teach Conn students about Korean language and culture through weekly class meetings and cultural events.

Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán (M.E.Ch.A)

Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán is a student organization that promotes higher education, culture and history. MEChA was founded on the principles of self-determination for the liberation of Chicano/a people. They believe that political involvement and education is the avenue for change in this society.

Amnesty International

Amnesty International at Connecticut College is dedicated to the investigation and prevention of worldwide human rights violations and strives to promote the integrity of all human beings, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, age or political affiliation. Its members promote the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on the College's campus, within the New London community, nationally and globally. Amnesty International is concerned with the impartial protection of all human rights.

Conn C.A.R.E.S. (Animal Rights and Equality Society)

Conn C.A.R.E.S. aims to advocate on behalf of all non-human animals through education and reform, to create a supportive environment for those interested in ending animal suffering, and to provide resources for enjoying a cruelty-free lifestyle.

Oceana

Oceana advocates for ocean health and responsible use of marine resources.

Relay for Life CC

Relay for Life is a nationwide collaboration of college students, faculty, and staff dedicated to eliminating cancer by initiating and supporting programs of the American Cancer Society in college communities.

RefleXion

A group that focuses on writing, performing and teaching the crafts of poetry, rap and other verbal arts with a special emphasis on the spoken word art form.

Students Organized Against Racism (SOAR)

SOAR promotes a general awareness of cultural, racial and ethnic differences as well as similarities. Its members create campus projects that educate students of the evils of racism. They also plan activities, advise the institution, and serve as an advocate for changes which promote racial understanding.

Women's Empowerment Initiative

The purpose of this organization shall be to perform a show that represents women (trans and non-binary inclusive) across race, class, and sexual orientation through unique but unifying voices. Using monologues submitted by students, faculty, staff, alumni, and members of the New London community, we will produce a show for the campus and greater community. The goal of this group is to bring women together to celebrate and reflect on experiences while forming new friendships and a greater community bond. Because we feel that female experiences do not exist in a vacuum, we welcome the participation of male students in the monologue selection process and show development. The proceeds of this show will be sent to Safe Futures of New London and used for the improvement of women in the New London area

Media

Cadenza Magazine

Like a cadenza in music, the College's newest art and literary magazine aims to provide students, faculty and staff with an outlet for expressing their creative talents. They publish at least once every semester and donate a portion of magazine sales to a local charity that promotes literacy and creativity.

The College Voice

The College's only student-run newspaper, The College Voice recruits a volunteer staff of students each semester to handle all aspects of the weekly publication — reporting, editing, ad sales, management, photography, layout and design. Their purpose is, but is not restricted to, publishing an editorially independent newspaper and engage in other publishing enterprises (i.e. online publication). All publications of The College Voice must uphold journalistic ethics. It serves as the campus watchdog, acts as a community forum for issues of common concern, and informs the campus community of significant issues.

Her Campus

The purpose of the Her Campus organization is to provide an online hub for students by providing content that is both a resource and source of entertainment, highlighting campus events, fashion and lifestyle content tailored for students.

WCNI-FM

WCNI is a non-commercial educational radio station owned and operated by Connecticut College Community Radio (CCCR). The WCNI Radio Club serves College and community interests through locally-produced public affairs programming to educate College and local residents about issues of particular importance in their communities. It broadcasts on 90.9 FM at 2000 watts, and streams live at www.wcniradio.org featuring a variety of musical programming. Their motto is "For the love of music." The club's secondary purpose is to provide a learning environment where Connecticut College students may gain knowledge and experience in aspects of radio broadcasting, radio station operation, and business management. Airtime is shared by a mix of students, community members and faculty.

Performing arts

Co Co Beaux

The College's only all-male a cappella group, they perform a mixture of modern pop songs and old classics and travels throughout the Northeast to perform at other colleges, high schools and events.

ConnArtists

A co-ed a cappella group that sings, entertains, and has fun. It's that simple.

Conn Chords

A female a cappella group, on campus for well over sixty years, that sings everything from rocking ensemble songs to Imogen Heap to John Mayer to Frank Sinatra to Yes. The group rehearses six hours a week and perform at other colleges, schools, nursing homes, private parties, and school functions.

Dance Club

This student club puts on two fully produced dance concerts each year in Myers Studio. Students play the roles of dancers, choreographers, producers and stagehands.

Dance Team

Dancers interested in jazz and hip-hop have the opportunity to learn and perform dances at athletic and other events and participate in competitions at both the regional and national levels.

Eclipse

This diverse student club organizes a popular spring weekend with dinners, dances and a standing-room-only talent show.

Miss Conduct

Miss Connduct is the brainchild of Candace Taylor, Class of 2013, who went out in search of young women on the Connecticut College campus in the Fall of 2010 to form the college's newest a cappella group. Miss Connduct is unique, inventive, and loves to showcase the fun and excitement that art, especially music can bring to life.

Musicians Organized for Band Rights on Campus (MOBROC)

Want to play in a band? Want to network with other musicians on campus? For a small fee, members can utilize the storage and practice space located in The Barn behind the College Center. MOBROC also hosts shows on and off campus so students can showcase their talents.

N2O Improv Comedy

N2O is the College's only short-form improv comedy group, with typically 8-11 members at any given time. During rehearsals, they practice games and various improv strategies to prepare for shows, typically 2-3 per semester, during which the group performs a variety of games.

RefleXion

A group that focuses on writing, performing and teaching the crafts of poetry, rap and other verbal arts with a special emphasis on the spoken word art form.

The Shwiffs

The College's very first a cappella singing group, this all-female group, established in 1944, has been singing strong ever since. Throughout the school year they perform at numerous events on and off campus. They even sang the national anthem at Fenway Park in Boston, Mass., before the Boston Red Sox game, as pictured in the photograph at the top of this page.

Vox Cameli

A co-ed a cappella group that performs at school functions, outside charity events, at other universities and twice a year at their own shows.

Wig and Candle

Wig and Candle is Conn's student-run theater group, designed and determined to bring student written, directed, designed, and produced theater to our campus.

Williams Street Mix

The Williams Street Mix is the oldest coed a capella group at Connecticut College. We sing a variety of music from classic oldies and rock to pop and ensemble pieces.

Conn Catholics

Conn Catholics is a community of believers, students, faculty, staff and alumni, growing together in faith. All are welcome to join, regardless of faith background, whether interested in liturgy, have questions or just want to talk. Mass and gatherings are held at Harkness Chapel. Hillel

Hillel is an organization that promotes Jewish life on campus. Once a month, Hillel hosts a bagel and lox brunch and some academic events. All are welcome.

Conn Christian Fellowship

Conn Christian Fellowship at Connecticut College is part of a national organization with chapters at more than 500 colleges and universities across the country. This non-denominational group of Christians seeks to find truth in the Bible and explore God and how he is relevant in their lives and the community around them. They work to engage the entire campus and are open to, and encourage, questions.

Active Minds

Active Minds is the only organization working to utilize the student voice to change the conversation about mental health on college campuses by developing and supporting chapters of student-run mental health awareness, education, and advocacy.

Best Buddies

Best Buddies International is the largest nonprofit organization established to promote friendships and employment for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The chapter's goal is to raise awareness on campus and the surrounding New London area.

Coffee Closets

Located near the first-floor entrance of Cummings Arts Center, the Coffee Closet offers a variety of coffee and tea beverages and a smaller, more intimate study space. The Walk-in Coffee Closet at Ruane's Den is a second venue, located in Harkness House, offering sandwiches, entrees, baked goods, coffee, tea, cappuccinos, hot chocolate and their famous Nutella latte.

Coffee Grounds

A student-run, organic, fair trade coffee shop located across from the College Center on the first floor of KB (Katharine Blunt residence hall) offering baked goods, delicious drinks and fair trade coffee, Coffee Grounds hosts club events, performances and department-sponsored events and displays student art. Weekly events include Tuesday Night Acoustics, Wednesday Jazz and Friday Band Night.

Connecticut College EMS Club

Connecticut College Emergency Medical Service seeks to provide expert pre-hospital care to respond quickly and safely to any emergencies that occur on campus. CCEMS currently operates at all club sporting events and in conjunction with campus safety. We also offer an on-campus EMT-Basic class and a number of scholarships from the Elizabeth Durante '10 EMT Scholarship Fund to help subsidize the class fee.

ConnSider (TEDxConnecticutCollege)

Promotes political, cultural and social awareness through talks, colloquia and events, focusing on variety of fields of interest, in order to foster academic dialogue outside the classroom.

Connecticut College Republicans and Conservatives Club

The purpose of this club shall be to encourage dynamic, diverse and encompassing political discourse on the Connecticut College campus; stimulate interest in governmental and international affairs; and develop an awareness of the political spectrum that exists among the student body. The Club also seeks to offer a different perspective to political, social, economic, and cultural issues to create and maintain an intellectually stimulating academic climate on campus.

Connecticut College Democrats

A political organization dedicated to raising political awareness of both local and national issues, ranging from health care to local elections to supreme court nominations and just about everything in between. The organization works closely with New London Democrats, involving themselves more with the community so as to play a more active role in improving both the campus and New London.

Gaming Club

The club is committed to supporting gaming in all its forms and bringing special gaming events to the campus at large, including, but not limited to, video games, board games, paper-and-pencil RPGs and card games. At weekly meetings, they plan open gaming events and prize-driven tournaments.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity is a student-run organization operated under the OVCS umbrella. Members go on weekly builds in the New London community every Saturday and also organize a Spring Break trip to different areas in the US each year. Trips are funded completely through student fundraising efforts throughout the year, such as gingerbread house making and ice skating at the Athletic Center.

Watch anime with us at our weekly meetings! We're always looking for new members so don't be afraid to shoot us an email or just join us during one of our meetings.

Smith Game Room

Located in Smith residence hall. Come play games or just relax.

Outdoors Club

The club's purpose is the pursuit of wilderness activity through group planning and organized outings. Outings emphasize instruction and the improvement of wilderness skills. Special attention is given to the importance of safety during wilderness activity and to the development of a respect for the great outdoors.

Peer Educators Empowering Positive Self (PEEPS)

Peer educators are student leaders dedicated to educating and empowering themselves and their peers to live balanced, healthy lives.

Peggotty Investment Club

This investment club manages a portion of the College endowment through a student-run investment portfolio. Essentially the club members act as investment managers using a portion of the College's endowment as their capital. The club is entirely student run and its members come from diverse backgrounds and various fields of study.

Pre-Health Club

The club provides students who are interested in pursuing a post-graduate health services education with a student support network. They help one another take appropriate actions to become qualified, competent applicants for post-graduate admission to professional schools.

Sprout! Organic Garden

Sprout is the organic garden and sustainable food initiative on campus overseen by the Office of Sustainability. They educate the College community about sustainable agriculture, promote the purchase of locally and organically grown foods, supply sustainably/organically grown foods to the dining halls, and provide students a means to learn about sustainable agriculture first-hand by working in the campus garden.

Student governance

Honor Council

The Honor Council adjudicates alleged violations of the Honor Code and is chaired by the SGA Honor Council Chair and advised by the Dean of Student Life.

Student Activities Council (SAC)

SAC's primary goal is to make sure that the college experience outside the classroom is as enriching as the experience inside the classroom. SAC students plan many different events such as off-campus excursions, dance parties, concerts and more. SAC puts on traditional events including Harvestfest, Winter Formal, Spring Semi-Formal Tent Dance and Floralia.

Student Engagement Program Assistants

Student Engagement Program assistants work in the Office of Student Engagement on a variety of programs. They plan low key events such as Bingo, Paint Night, and Comedy shows.

Student Athletic Advisory Committee

The Student Athlete Advisory Committee is a student-run group that helps to create excitement and awareness about athletics. The committee meets every other week to discuss the needs of Camel athletics and, in particular, the individual athlete. The group is a venue and resource for athletes to ask questions and bring problems to the committee to be brought to the administration.

Student Government Association (SGA)

The SGA considers issues and formulates policies in areas primarily or exclusively involving the student body at Connecticut College: social, academic and co-curricular policies. The SGA also seeks to extend channels of communication, increased areas of cooperation and a greater acceptance of shared responsibility between faculty, administration and students in general and academic interests.
