Ask a law school admissions dean "What is the best academic preparation for law school?" and the answer invariably will be "A well-rounded liberal arts curriculum."
There are no required courses for law school, but at Connecticut College, you'll obtain the verbal and written communication skills, logical reasoning and critical thinking abilities, organizational and analytical skills, broad understanding of human nature and behaviors, and a global perspective that law schools desire. Our Pre-Law track allows students with an interest in law and pursuing an advanced legal education to engage deeply with specialized law-related programming, content, and activities to prepare them for the LSAT, law school or legal training, and beyond. We work with students throughout their four years at Conn to ensure that they develop the skills and experience necessary for a thriving legal career.
If you are thinking about pursuing a law career, you should know that the Connecticut College Pre-Law track provides extensive resources services to help students achieve their goals, including:
- A Pre-Law Advising Moodle that students can self-enroll in to review a variety of resources,
- Pre-Law Events calendar and targeted email announcements with upcoming events and internship and scholarship opportunities
- Hale Center-sponsored events such as visits to regional law schools
- 1-1 individualized advising with a staff and faculty pre-law advisor
- Alumni and employer events such as panels, career conversations, workshops, and guest speakers to help students connect classroom knowledge with real-world application
- Additional networking opportunities through our Camel Connected alumni database and extensive LinkedIn network
- A Flexible Career Funding Program to pursue law-related work experiences during all four years at Conn.
- Reference letter service to store letters of recommendation for law school
Additionally, we encourage all pre-law students to bolster their law school admission profiles by pursuing co-curricular activities on campus, including participating on our Mock Trial team, Debate Union, or other clubs and organizations on campus, as well as leadership opportunities within these organizations and athletics. There are also numerous opportunities for on-campus part-time employment, community service experience through community partnerships and sports, and participation in the academic certificate center programs, or integrative pathways.
