Interlibrary Loan service (ILL) at Connecticut College borrows or obtains copies of library materials needed by members of the college community but unavailable in our own collection, and is available to all current Connecticut College faculty, staff, and students. Requests for books owned by Trinity College or Wesleyan University may be placed directly via the CTW catalog.
We treat all submissions as priority requests. If you are concerned about receiving your ILL request in time for your project, please include a note on your ILL request indicating the date you need the material by.
When a loan arrives, the Ill Office will notify the patron. The item will be held in the ILL office where it can be picked up. Please be aware that loan restrictions may apply to some items and loans can be recalled by the supplying library at any time.
Please use all borrowed items with care and respect. ILL service is based on the generosity and trust between cooperating libraries. Tardiness in returning items, poor handling of loaned materials, or losing loaned materials may jeopardize future borrowing privileges for the Connecticut College community. All undergraduates are subject to fees levied by the lending libraries for lost materials.
ILL returns should be brought to the ILL office, but if the office is closed books may returned at the Circulation Desk.
To expedite orders for copies of journal articles, please provide all of the information requested on the ILL Journal Article Request form; delays in ordering the item by the ILL office or delays in processing by supplying libraries can arise from lack of volume number, page numbers, article title, etc.
Providing your source of information can be of help to the ILL staff if the citation is inaccurate and needs to be checked. If you need help interpreting citations from various indices and databases, please ask a reference librarian.
ILL strives to obtain as many items as possible free of charge to our patrons. However, not all items can be obtained without extra costs. If a request is cancelled due to a lack of free lenders, and consultation with a Reference Librarian results in the cancelled request being an indispensable source of information, the request may be resubmitted with a note indicating its importance.
