Interlibrary Loan Lending for Other Libraries
Interlibrary Loan is a service through which outside libraries can request to obtain access to materials from the Connecticut College Libraries: Shain Library and Greer Music Library.
Connecticut College’s interlibrary loan department accepts requests through OCLC Worldshare, RAPID, and by emailing our interlibrary loan specialist, Jana Pietrzyk at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We do not charge Connecticut Libraries, nor libraries that lend for free. For libraries that charge, and are outside of Connecticut, we are a reciprocal lender, and fees may be paid by IFM.
Connecticut College libraries are part of the Boston Library Consortium (BLC), Connecticut ULS, Eastern Academic Scholars Trust (EAST), Shared Print, IDS Project, Libraries Supplying AV Mats Free Of Charge (FILM), Libraries Very Interested In Sharing (LVIS), Nelinet Online Code $Igner$, New England UL & GAC CTR, Northeast GAC, Oberlin Group, OCLC Resource Sharing/Knowledge Base Part, OCLC Training & ILLiad Participant.
We are happy to lend most circulating materials including books, CDs, DVDs, and LPs. We cannot lend physical items from our Archives or Special Collections, nor can we lend whole eBooks. Feel free to contact the Linda Lear Center for Special Collections and Archives, using this Google Form, to see if they are able to arrange a scan of special collection items.
Length of Loans
Our standard loan period is 16 weeks with no renewals. We only recall items when absolutely necessary for course reserves.
Our standard methods for shipping include UPS 2nd Day Air, UPS ground, and USPS library rate. We will only send in-state returns through the Connecticut State Library System, DeliverIT, and ask that you do the same.
Right to Reject Requests
While there could be a number of reasons we may need to reject a request, common reasons are as follows:
- Scans of book chapters or bound journal articles: the request exceeds our copy limit (50 pages)
- An item may be lost or missing
- Items may not be in a reasonable condition to be shipped or scanned
- We may not have enough time to fill the request in the projected time frame, and want to give you the best chance to get the material in a reasonable amount of time.
We are more than happy to field requests, even if a request for the same material may have been canceled recently for the reason: “other” > “time”.
