Dean of the Faculty, Professor of Anthropology

Jeffrey Cole, Professor of Anthropology, was appointed Dean of the Faculty effective July 1, 2018; he had served as chair of the department of anthropology since 2008. The highest ranking officer after the president, the Dean of the Faculty is responsible for providing academic leadership for the College and its faculty. Food matters increasingly figure in Cole’s teaching and research. His earlier research explored varied aspects of migration, with a focus on Italy.

Amanda Barnes

Secretary to the Faculty, Assistant to the Associate Dean of the Faculty, Academic Department Assistant

Amanda provides general support for faculty governance, including the Faculty Steering and Conference Committee, Academic and Administrative Procedures Committee, Priorities, Planning and Budget Committee, Educational Planning Committee and faculty meetings. She sets meeting dates, prepares agendas, minutes, etc. The Secretary maintains Information for Faculty and curricular changes as well as email lists for the server. Amanda provides all administrative support for the Associate Dean of the Faculty, including scheduling.

ACCOUNTS PAYABLE ASSISTANT

Jeanette is the contact person for all funds administered through the Office of the Dean of the Faculty including: endowed chairs, R.F. Johnson and Hodgkin funds, Research Matters, Faculty/Student Engagement, faculty searches, relocation expenses, and visiting committees, etc. She is the liaison with Accounting for processing receipts for reimbursement requests and cash vouchers.

Interim Associate Dean of the Faculty, 2018-19, Professor of Biology

Anne Bernhard, Professor of Biology, was appointed Interim Associate Dean of the Faculty for a one-year term effective July 30, 2018 through June 30, 2019. The overall goal of Anne Bernhard's research is to understand the relationships among changes in environmental conditions, microbial communities, and nutrient cycling in coastal ecosystems, particularly salt marshes and estuaries.

Senior Assistant to the Senior Administrator

Jenny manages the Dean of the Faculty’s calendar, coordinates office processes for the dean, and provides administrative support for projects within the dean’s office, including the tenure and promotion process, Board of Trustees meetings, endowed chair events, and the Faculty@Work series.

A scholar of modern Chinese literature, Amy Dooling has published books on 20th century women’s writing and feminist literary culture. As Associate Dean of Global Initiatives, Dooling works with offices and individuals across campus to coordinate the College’s global education efforts.

Charlene Gobeli

HUMAN RESOURCES SPECIALIST

Charlene works with the Dean of the Faculty and the Associate Dean of the Faculty on all aspects of faculty hiring and appointments, including supporting faculty searches and coordinating all hiring-related paperwork. Charlene is the liaison with Human Resources and Payroll on all processes regarding faculty matters and special projects. She maintains faculty personnel files and tracks sabbatical requests and eligibility.

John Nugent

DIRECTOR OF INSTITUTIONAL RESEARCH

John designs studies of campus policies and programs to inform institutional decision-making, fosters informed program improvement via collection, analysis, and reporting of campus data, maintains major institutional data sets reported to external agencies; completes or coordinates major institutional surveys and supports the College's enrollment and planning efforts.
