Fall 2020 Welcome / Audition Day
While we can't offer our usual Welcome / Audition Day, we're planning a few fun and engaging events for prospective students interested in studying dance at Connecticut College when you “VISIT” us! (You know what we mean!) These include chats with professors, which is being organized by the Admissions Office, as well as live online class/audition days where you'll be able to experience dance here at Connecticut College.
As part of the Admissions Fall Online Open Houses, we will be offering the chats with professors Sept. 21-25 and Nov. 2-6 from 3-4pm. Registration will be open soon.
For our live online Welcome / Audition Day on Monday, November 9 you'll meet with our dedicated faculty and current students and learn more about dancing here through our Information Session. We will dance together in an energizing online movement class, where you will be exposed to the multiple dance techniques our faculty teach, and share a video of your work!
Please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to receive more information about dancing in our wonderful dance department. We will send you the Zoom link for the November 9 meeting along with more information about what you can expect. If you aren't able to attend on November 9, please be sure to be in touch with us to schedule another weekday to virtually visit a dance class and meet with one of the dance faculty members.
Below is a sample of what you can expect on our Conn Coll Live Online Welcome / Audition Days:
Wherever you may be dancing from - inside, outside, in your room or your garage, wear comfortable clothing that you can move in: ballet slippers, socks or barefoot.
During our virtual Information Session, we'll all introduce ourselves to get to know each other.
Faculty and current students will answer any questions you might have.
Our faculty will give you a taste of the variety of dance techniques we offer. The class will consist of West African, Afro-Caribbean and Modern, Improvisation and Ballet, so you can experience all of the movement forms we have to offer.
We'd like you to prepare and share a video of your dancing that should be about 1.5-2 minutes in length, in any style you like. Your solo can be either your own composition or someone else's choreography.
Immediately following the showing of solos, the faculty will be available to answer any follow up questions you may have.
If you have any immediate questions, please do not hesitate to call the dance department at 860-439-2830 or email email@example.com. Being virtual this year poses some challenges, but it also means faculty can meet with you one on one, no matter where you live, to talk about your dreams for studying dance at Connecticut College. We would also be happy to put you in touch with a current dance major to provide you with insights from a student perspective. Many of our students are double majors at Connecticut College.
We look forward to getting to know you and sharing our wonderful department with you through these online sessions for now and look forward to dancing with you in person soon!
