Visiting Assistant Professor of Music

The Connecticut College Department of Music invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professor in historical musicology for the academic year 2024-2025, with the possibility of renewal. We seek a colleague with broad expertise in the area of musicology, its subfields, and its pedagogies, and who is enthusiastic about working closely with students in a liberal arts context. The successful candidate’s expertise will complement current departmental offerings and extend to such topics as African diasporic, Latinx, Indigenous, or popular musics, and to such approaches as critical race studies, decolonization, or gender and sexuality studies. Teaching responsibilities will include courses in the history of western art music, American music, and other courses related to the candidate’s area of specialization. Candidates should have a Ph.D. by the time of appointment.

The teaching load for full-time visitors is five courses per year. We value the contributions visitors bring to our community and encourage their active engagement with their departments and all aspects of campus life during the course of their appointment. Visiting faculty are initially participating members of the faculty and voting members in their second and subsequent years; their presence is welcome at all faculty meetings.
