What are self-scheduled final exams?
Self-scheduled exams are paper exams that students take on their own in exam classrooms in a designated Exam building. Students pick up and return the exam to the Exam Distribution Center in the Exam building and have three hours to take the exam. Exam Distribution Center hours are published on the Registrar’s website. Under the Honor Code, students may decide for themselves when to take a particular final exam unless that exam requires the instructor to be in the exam room, in which case the instructor will schedule the exam through the Registrar's office. Before the exam period begins, you will receive information from the Registrar’s office about exams.
Do all classes have unscheduled final examinations?
No. Some classes require final papers and others have scheduled exams because of the nature of the exam.
Can I use my computer to take exams?
Computers/laptops/ipads/cell phones (or other similar devices) are not permitted in exam rooms and may not be used for self-scheduled exams unless a student receives this approved accommodation through the Office of Accessibility Services. During the exam period, students approved for accommodations take their self-scheduled exams in the Academic Resource Center. Course instructors may give specific permission to use a computer for scheduled or take-home exams.
What if I need extra time or other academic accommodations?
Academic accommodations must be arranged ahead of time with your instructor and the Office of Accessibility Services. If you have a visible or invisible disability that may require accommodations, be sure that you are registered with the Office of Accessibility Services. During the exam period, students approved for accommodations take their self-scheduled exams in the Academic Resource Center.
