The Year in Camels

It was an outstanding year for Camel sports! Several of our teams had success at the national level, led by our women’s swim and soccer teams. The women’s swim team, who finished a program-best #3 in NESCAC, sent a record ten swimmers to the NCAA meet and came home with their highest finish ever, a lofty #10 on seven All-America (top 8) swims, including an NCAA title in the 200 breast stroke by first-year Mary Erb. The women’s soccer team had a 10-win season and earned their second NCAA tournament berth in three years, advancing to the round of 32. Six of our teams qualified for the NESCAC playoffs with women’s hockey advancing to their third NESCAC semi-final in four years. The team’s string of 10 straight NESCAC playoff appearances helped them be chosen to play in Fenway Park in January in front of over 100 alums and 200 students and College community members. Fifteen Camels earned All-America honors and 27 were named to their respective All-NESCAC teams. 178 of our student-athletes were named to the NESCAC All-Academic team. Senior women’s swimmer Val Urban, a six-time All-American and Winthrop Scholar, is a nominee for the NCAA’s Woman of the Year honor.
