Emmy continues to explore the different areas of study within her biology major at Connecticut College.  During the spring 2021 semester, Emmy travelled to Maui, Hawaii where she participated in work-trade on a permaculture farm.  While living in a tent, she tended to the property, plants, and animals on the farm while learning an abundance about sustainable and organic farming.  This past summer, she dove deeper into the subject of ecology by completing an internship with WhollyH2O, an organization that catalyzes connections between people and the watersheds of Oakland, CA, to yield water management through conservation and reuse.  In her position, she performed research to assess the health and productivity of the watersheds, put together educational programs for the public, and later took on an internship managing position.  On campus, Emmy is also a Tour Guide and Captain of the Connecticut College Club Ski Team.  In her free time she likes to hang out with friends in the sun on Tempel Green!

Alexis has a passion for dance and is committed to understanding the many benefits that dance has on a person’s mental and physical well being. Her career interests include performing, choreography, and dance movement therapy related positions. In addition to her major and minor, she is completing the Creativity Pathway which is allowing her to research the mental health benefits of the imagination and how that can be executed through dance. As a first year student, Alexis had the opportunity to plan and teach several children’s dance classes at the Connecticut College Child Development Lab School, and is planning to reinstate these classes when safe to do so. Her own choreography has been showcased in many different on campus productions including Eclipse, Dance Club and Dance Department Solo Show. When Alexis is not dancing, though very rare, you can find her listening to music, hanging with friends, or drinking Dunkin' coffee. In the future, Alexis hopes to complete an internship with the Walt Disney Company to further explore her love of creativity, imagination and performing.

As community and public health advocate, Eslam aims to pursue a career in public health to address today's ongoing public health concerns. His interests in molecular biology, statistics, and environmental studies has allowed him to explore different fields of public health. This past summer, he worked on modeling the SARS-CoV-2 Variant epidemic in the US. Eslam hopes to continue to investigate public health interventions, infrastructures, and disease control. On campus, Eslam is the Co-President of TedX. He is also part of the international community and the International Student Association. Eslam works as an International Advisor Coordinator, Senior Admissions Fellow, and as a Tutor in the biology and statistics department. In his free time, Eslam enjoys music, soccer, and relaxing with friends.

Billy is the captain of the Men’s Squash team and is an active Member of the Men’s Track and Field team. Two summers ago, Billy spent four weeks at Dartmouth College’s Tuck Business Bridge Program, taking courses from MBA faculty. For his capstone project, he helped present a team-based valuation on Urban Outfitters which included a DCF analysis. Billy hopes to use the skills he has learned in business to pass on to others who might also be interested in gaining similar skill sets. Billy has a deep passion for connecting underrepresented college students to organizations that have helped him break into finance such as SEO, BLK Capital Management, and MLT. Billy hopes to continue his education at business school through a deferred admission’s process. This past summer, he interned at UBS with their Sales and Trading division. Billy accepted a full-time offer and will return as an incoming analyst for the firm upon graduation.

From a young age Olivia has been fascinated by the Constitution and the law itself. At Conn, she has continued to pursue this interest on a Pre-Law track and as a Member of the Mock Trial team. Olivia spent the summer working as a waitress and shadowing a local lawyer in her hometown. She is currently in the process of applying to law school and hopes to start in the fall of 2022. During her free time, Olivia enjoys spending time with family and friends, listening to music, and catching up on recent tv shows anywhere from Grey’s Anatomy to Brooklyn Nine Nine.

Since a young age, Ted has had an interest in architecture and buildings and their functions in society. In high school, he took classes focused on the environment, where he discovered the ability to combine his interests. Ted is part of the Entrepreneurship Pathway, allowing him to expand his interests in both architecture and the environment, and explore the relationship between the two. Through the Pathway he has been able to research and understand how the built environment comes together with the natural world. This past summer Ted grew his interest in physical buildings and spaces in an environment, through an internship at an architecture firm.  In addition to being a Career Fellow, Ted is a Sustainability Fellow for the Office of Sustainability, a Member of the Architectural Studies Student Advisory Board, and a Tour Guide for the Office of Admission. In his free time you can catch him playing basketball, walking in the Arboretum, or playing spikeball on Tempel Green.

Having spent ten years living in Atlanta, GA and ten years in Dubai, UAE before moving to Connecticut, working in a global industry has always been a priority for her. On campus, she is a Peer Tutor and Teaching Assistant in the Accounting and Economics departments, President of Women in Finance, and Member of the Peggotty Investment Club. Libby has completed internships at Monroe Capital and Oxford Funds, LLC. This past summer Libby worked for MUFG in New York, NY where she has accepted an offer to return as a full-time Corporate Banking Analyst after graduation. Marta hopes to explore her interests in creative communications within the sustainability industry. Over the summer Marta completed an internship with sustainability start-up Voiz, an international community of gen-z students working to shed light on corporate greenwashing and articulate the high environmental standards of the up-and-coming consumer base. In her role, Marta was able to become certified as a Sustainability Analyst and lead a team within the social media department. Marta previously explored her interests in magazines and publishing as the Editorial Intern at Down East Magazine, and will continue to explore this interest on the executive board of Conn’s student-run fashion and lifestyle magazine. Marta is hoping to work in sustainable fashion and/or magazine publishing that ultimately allows her to explore how to motivate consumers to adopt sustainability as a core value. When she is not in class, Marta loves to perform with the Dance Club, plan TedX events, and hang out with friends while working in Ruane’s Den, one of the coffee shops on campus.

As an avid debater, Long takes great interest in learning policy analysis and how a policy can be improved to appeal to people from across the social ladder. He has applied this interest to his work in the Toor Cummings Center, and will finish his major in International Relations with a focus on comparative politics in East Asia. Long also applies his interest in extracurricular activities, having been a Student Advisor, the Secretary of Conn@ Model United Nations Association, and a Member of the Honor Council. He is currently working as a Research Intern for Mibrand Vietnam, a major branding agency that focuses on branding strategy and market research. He has one year of experience in building research proposals, designing and handling surveys, and data analysis. His goal is to attain a post-grad degree in computational social sciences and further his career as a researcher. When he’s not at work, Long enjoys practicing piano at Cummings or hanging out with his friends.

Ricardo looks to understand the role that law and public policy have on the lives of those who are underrepresented in United States society, especially immigrants and those living in minority neighborhoods. His passion has solidified his interest in pursuing law school to become an immigration attorney. This past summer, he worked with the UC Berkeley Labor Center and the Housing Rights Committee of San Francisco to help people advocate for their rights as tenants in both English and Spanish. Additionally, he worked with the Silicon Valley branch of the Human Rights Watch to research the best social media and marketing methods for outreach to 18 - 30 year olds in the area. On campus, he is the President of the CC Law Society, Communications and Marketing Ambassador for Gender and Sexuality Programs, Co-Chair of the Men of Color Alliance, President of TEDxConnecticutCollege, a member of the Multicultural Recruitment Team for Admissions, and a REAL student staffer. In his free time, he enjoys creating art, dance, and listening to music.

Growing up in New York City, Hannah recalls spending most weekends exploring various museums and creating original works of her own. It was during this time that she developed a passion for the arts. At Conn, Hannah has been able to explore various mediums of artwork but prefers working with oil paint. Particularly, Hannah has focused on portraiture and the different ways that paint can articulate the way we see people. During the Summer of 2021, Hannah was a studio intern at the print shop and gallery Two Palms, NY, where she worked alongside some of today’s most influential artists such as Mel Bochner, Cecily Brown, Stanley Whitney, Dana Schutz, and others. Hannah was also a curatorial intern at the Lyman Allyn Art Museum, in New London, where she was able to learn the insights of what working at a museum entails. She is excited to help students connect with various career opportunities, specifically help to navigate careers in the art world.

Since he was young, Kevin has been passionate about social movement activism and politics. Starting in high school, he began to engage in environmental and climate activism. This interest flourished further during college, where he spent a year volunteering for both the national organization and multiple local hubs of the Sunrise Movement. Over the past year, Kevin has worked as a Fellow at Equal Citizens, a democracy reform organization, where he has been able to collaborate with other grassroots organizations and help progress transformative federal voting rights legislation. Kevin empowers his activism through his academic pursuits as well. In addition to his major and double minor, Kevin is engaging in a multi-year research project into the political impacts of youth climate movements using social movement theory through the Goodwin-Niering Center.

Since childhood Jayne has been captivated by the way that language can shape our understanding of the people and world around us. It was in one of her English classes that she discovered a love for taking care of others and the importance of communication. It was this discovery that led her to her current career path of nursing. Over this past summer she has worked towards this goal by taking a nutrition course and had the opportunity to work with Connecticut College’s Office of Sexual Violence Prevention and Advocacy (SVPA). Her work in SVPA introduced to her to the role of a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner which combines her passions for nursing and advocating against sexual assault and violence. She is very excited to use her last year at Conn to continue to explore her interests. Outside of the classroom, you can find Jayne in a random common room with the Women’s Empowerment Initiative, in Cro with SafetyNet, or on the field with the Women’s Ultimate team. If given the opportunity she can talk for days about what podcast she’s currently listening to, horror movies, food and/or sharks.

Since his junior year of high school Neal has been devoted to exploring his interest in economics, captivated by how people make those decisions most important to their lives. Upon his entry to Conn, Neal was able to watch his horizons expand as he applied that same captivation to a big-picture, international perspective, discovering a second love for the subject of international relations. On campus Neal is very active, serving as a Student Advisor for the First-Year Seminar Nudging to Success, working with the Academic Resource Center as an Accounting Teaching Assistant as well as serving as the Vice President of the Peggotty Investment Club and Captain of the Men’s Varsity Swim Team. This past summer, Neal worked with MUFG Securities Americas as a Summer Analyst in their Capital Markets Group. In this role, he actively participated in multiple $1bn + bond issuances for investment grade clients, as well as collaborated on multiple client pitches in conjunction with other members of the commercial paper desk. After graduation, Neal will be returning to MUFG’s capital markets group where he has accepted a full-time analyst position.

Since her junior year of high school Jackie has been intrigued by the functions of the human body and injuries that can alter these functions. She grew up playing sports and suffered a few injuries herself, and started forming her career interests around the doctors she had seen. She began her college journey at a school in Brooklyn, New York as a biology major. Upon transferring to Conn as a sophomore, she changed her major to psychology. After joining the Public Health Pathway she connected with an alumni who had careers both as a Physician Assistant and in the public health field, which is now where Jackie has directed her search for internships and graduate school. On campus she is a Member of the Women’s Varsity Soccer team, an Athletic Center Monitor, Sports Information Aide, and a Campus Ambassador for the Gift of Life Club. Mia’s passion for non-profit work is what led her to discover Connecticut College. Fascinated by the Holleran Center’s Program in Community Action and Public Policy (PICA), Mia was excited to explore different social justice issues through her college education. While taking Introduction to Sociology their freshman year, Mia fell in love with the subject and was eager to take more courses that would help them to develop a strong sociological perspective. A pivotal point in Mia’s professional development was interning at CUMAC, an anti-hunger organization based in Paterson, NJ. Although she approached the internship with an expectation of learning more about food insecurity, Mia gained knowledge about what a trauma-informed organization is and how they operate. By discussing adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), trauma, and resilience, Mia learned how to better understand the families who came to CUMAC, as well as better understand people in general. When accepted into PICA, Mia focused their area of study on ACEs, resilience, and self-healing communities. She continues to take sociology electives, such as Sociology of Health, that allow her to further research current studies on trauma and the body, as well as learn more about current initiatives that work to strengthen communities. In addition to being a career fellow, you can catch Mia in the Office of Admission as a tour guide and Ambassador! She is also often singing somewhere on campus, as a part of the choir, theater department, or President of her a cappella group, the Shwiffs.

Megan has always been dedicated and passionate both in and outside of the classroom. Her curiosity for biology and psychology led her to the field of Neuroscience. Megan is interested in attending medical school after graduating from Conn with the aspirations to become a physician. Megan has learned through her experience working as an EMT in the community the importance of communication, teamwork, and leadership. She has continued to develop these skills in her various professional roles and hopes to help other Conn students do the same. On campus, Megan is an active and engaged member of the Connecticut College community. Megan works as a member of REAL staff in a first year dorm, is the secretary of the CCEMS club, and is a psychology tutor for the Academic Resource Center. Megan also participates in SafetyNet, which is a program run by the Sexual Violence Prevention and Advocacy office. For fun, Megan enjoys singing with her A Cappella group, Miss Connduct, and spending time with friends and family.

Eilis grew up watching her parents, who are both in the medical field, which sparked a love for medicine and for caring for people. Eilis has been exploring different fields of medicine, confirming that she wants to eventually go to medical school. She especially loved shadowing an Orthopedist at Portsmouth Regional Hospital in orthopedic surgery, watching shoulder replacements. Not only did she love the surgeries, but she loved seeing the medical staff interact with patients in a more personal, office setting. Language is another one of Eilis’ passions, which is why she decided to minor in Hispanic Studies and why she joined CISLA. CISLA allows Eilis to pursue both her interests, science and Spanish. She had a summer remote internship in 2021 in Santiago, Chile, working with Universidad Diego Portales in the Centro de Estudios en Neurociencia Humana y Neuropsicologia and is still working with her supervisor to publish a cross-cutting edge article. Eilis wants to combine her love for medicine and Spanish, using these to be able to communicate with Spanish speakers in the United States that seek medical services. On campus, Eilis is a Tour Guide, as well as a Spanish Tutor. She is also a Co-President of the Pre-Health Club this year, helping coordinate events with health professionals. Eilis is excited to help students navigate what seems to be a very daunting task, figuring out their futures. Her favorite spots on campus are Tempel Green and Blue Camel, so you can usually find her at one of these awesome places!
